April 13, 2016: Mom gains weight and I brag

I bragged about it then and I still do now; Moving mom home I was frightened of my ability to get enough good food into her. I also left her to set her own appetite levels for a long time– not realizing that they were dropped by the dementia itself. She has been frail and weaker since her aneurysm back in 2005; Mom being able to stay warm outdoors in Spring– let alone at all– is a massive accomplishment that I do not apologize for shouting from the rooftops.

In the past few years there have been a number of physical issues that Donna has faced, but the most constant one for perhaps most of the last decade is easily her constant underweight nature. She is the only person I know who managed to tell me she was cold even on the beach in Puerto La Cruz (Venezuela).

So, considering that, I’m over the moon proud of the fact for the last few weeks she is not cold outside. I’ve made a point of making her food she enjoys– easy enough, she taught me to make a number of her favourites years ago & I call that good foresight and retirement planning by accident– and get heavy yet healthy things in. That was a decision for the obvious “You need to enjoy your food!” sentiment, but it has given her the padding she needs to sit on her own patio, enjoy watching me dig in her garden and not even get cold when it clouds over.

It’s been several episodes of this, so I’m officially declaring this minor bonus remarkable and a total win on my part. Yeay! And Mollie is mature enough of a cat now to relax outside without leaving so aside from my cat yelling at us, the whole family can have a nice, outdoor, garden and sun day.
